Faolan,

Linen is gauged the same way leather is - number of ounces per a certain
size piece.  The larger the number, the heavier the linen.  Linen fabrics
run a gamut of densities, from gossamer handkerchief weight to canvas you
can sail the high seas with.

You might want to check with others in the rapier community who have been
making linen fighting gear to see if they have found a preference of what
weight and how many layers.

Linen.  Great stuff.  Can't have enough of it.
