greetings

the below quote is from the sca.org " Resources for Newcomers " section.
in the " Overview and description of the SCA " sub-section .

>
Where did the SCA come from?
The avowed purpose of the SCA is the study and recreation of the European Middle Ages, its crafts, sciences, arts, traditions, literature, etc. The SCA "period" is defined to be Western civilization before 1600 AD, concentrating on the Western European High Middle Ages. Under the aegis of the SCA we study dance, calligraphy, martial arts, cooking, metalwork, stained glass, costuming, literature... well, if they did it, somebody in the SCA does it (Except die of the Plague!). <

so technically if its not " western european and pre 1600 "
you're not allowed in the sca ???

what about all of the middle eastern dancers ??
or the japanese / chinese persona's ???
or half a dozen other persona types i've seen over the years ??

no , for the most part ,
people in the sca are here to enjoy them selves, and have fun .
yes learning the history of your persona , and learning how your persona would have dressed , worked , lived ,and even played can be a lot of fun.

( yes , there are exceptions , such as the period police or the authenticity nazi's , who will have kittens about almost anything they don't agree with , but they are pretty few and far between )

as well as the going to event's and getting to know people from all over the place, at a war , you may meet people from canada , australia , europe, anywhere in the world .
but you can also learn about different cultures right here at home .
see clothing you can't place ?? go ask about it . believe me , the person won't be offended .

well i guess i'm finished playing devils advocate / orator.
be safe, be happy , have fun
