Yes I have the punch-tester, it is with me at every practice.
You can use 'trigger' or 'sportscloth', it is much cheaper, but it is also 45% to 65% polyester mixed with cotton so it dosen't breathe as much. But seriously you can use any fabric, it's just that linen is most comfortable, period, and pretty(and after you've done sewing for a number of years you can usaully spot fabric-content by the way it drapes and falls).
