[Northkeep] Woodworking?

Use a pencil sharpener. Electric, crank, or hand held. It's a dandy way to
make knitting needles. Use a little sandpaper to round over the tips, then
burnish them on a piece of marble or some heavy, glazed ceramic object, like
the bottom of a mixing bowl. A slight rubbing of beeswax worked into the
wood will make yarn slide over them more easily; though they will smooth
down with use, too.
