I chose the word I used.  I'll leave it to the individual members of the populace to determine why my Scribe wrote it that way.    ^_^

Besides the medieval text, rolls, and ledgers are full of examples of using
alternate spellings for the words aren't they?

Maybe the Clerk or Priest who educated Damon in the Kings English just used
a different spelling than the Irish one who taught Dairmaid?
