My pulmonary specialist told me to drink a ton of fluids and take Mucinex. It is an over-the-counter medicine that seems to make the congestion disappear. I used to have chronic bronchitis and used Mucinex everytime I initially noticed I was getting sick. I have to say the stuff really works. I haven't had full-blown bronchitis since. It is not cheap but certainly worth the money!! There are two types of Mucinex. One is for chest congestion and cough, and I don't remember what the other one is. Either way, you will enjoy the results of this wonderful medicine! Also, Robitusin DM helps to break up the congestion so you can cough it up. With the two of these working and the fluids you consume (they say water is the best) I think you will start to really feel better soon. I hope you feel better very soon!

Whatever rememdy you try, the number 1 rule with congestion is to drink
liquids. The more liquids you drink, the easier it is to actually cough up
the gunk. Oh, and also concentrate on deep breaths (which I realize
probably make you cough right now). Deep breaths open up the alveoli in
your lungs and promote the production of surfactant, which help keep them
open.
