That's the way Hollywood does things. Think of "Fantasia" - all you see in
the ads are clips of Mickey Mouse from "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" sequence.
It is NOT a movie for small children - it won't keep their attention and
the "Night on Bald Mountain" piece at the end always has some small children
crying and shrieking in fright - and yet people take their small ones to
this movie, because of the advertising.
Anyone who has read "Bridge to Terabithia" knows it is not a happy story.
But let's face it, the scenes of the kids in their everyday lives on this
side doesn't make for good ad copy.
Now, as for "300": it's Frank Miller, it's going to be awesome. But it's
also going to be heavily fantasized. Just keep that in mind, and you'll
enjoy the heck out of it.
Now, if you want a REALLY good book about the Spartans (and probably one of
the best-written novels I've ever read), get your hands on "Gates of Fire"
by Stephen Pressfield. Awe-inspiring. Glorious. Will make a grown man
cry. Can't say enough good about it.
