Old names for Oklahoma include:

Louisiana (until 1803)
Indian Territory (until 1907)
No Man's Land (colloquially)
The Indian Nations (generically)

Oklahoma means "Land of the Red Man," but very few in the SCA have New World personas. Besides, the Northern Region now includes groups in Texas as well as Oklahoma.

I've noticed more than one suggestion of using a variant of "red" in the name, probably referring to Oklahoma red dirt; but not all of the Northern Region has red dirt.

For the Northkeep portion of the region, Pays-Vert would be a more appropriate name, that being "Green Country" in French.

I have to admit, I had thought of "Star Shield" as well, but as I said, Oklahoma is not all of the Northern Region.

Speaking tongue in cheek here: "Omphalia" wouldn't be an inappropriate name. It's Greek for "navel." Delphi possessed an omphalos, a navel-stone, as symbol that it was considered the center of the world. We're pretty central to the bulk of the Knowne World. But the bellybutton jokes might be a little much.

There is an opportunity to consider names that reflect the people and history of the region as well as its geography or geology.

Pondering,
