greetings

my 1st exposure to the sca was a friend of mine from rocky horror ( magenta
,mka lil debbie , unknown sca name ) in 1980 orlando fla.
( wish i could find her online and chat ; )
but at the time i was in the navy and didnt have transportation, or money.
1982 , im out of the navy and ride into tulsa, to hear a radio station blurb
about a science fiction convention at the camelot
( okon still have the badge from that one ; ) upon arriving , i see this
group of people milling around in funny clothes , and makeshift armor , then
a couple of them went out and started beating on each other ,who all said
they were from the shire of northkeep, and i'm like " umm this is a little
wierd , but there were a couple cute girls there which made it ok ; )
before they left someone told me about fighter practice at the park at 21st
and peoria , so i would stop in from time to time and kick back on the bike
and watch these oddly dressed people , as i slowly started talking to some
of them , and got to know them , i found that they were actualy nice people,
and they were always talking about acting honorably , and they seemed to
always be helping each other , then came an invitation to a revel at marc
and rosalynds house. which , while it didnt work out mainly due to my
depressions,( i left early), the fact that this groupof people had accepted
me for who i was and welcomed me to their group anyway, made a very large
impression. while i was there i found out about " sewing guild " ( the main
social gathering of the day much as fighter practice is today ) so i
attended a few of those as well, still feeling out the group interactions to
find a " safe zone " when out of the blue marc and rosalynd ask me what i
was doing on a particular weekend , being free and broke , i replied i don't
know , what am i doing that weekend . the response was be at our home at (
xxxxxx ) your coming with us to an event . and i'm like ummm, ok, not at all
certain what i was going to do for an entire weekend at said " event ".
before the date arrived ros has me stand up and takes measurements , and
before i know it i have my very 1st tunic ; ) , the day arrives, and i help
load the car and trailer with all manner of things, including stuffing me
into a corner of the back seat , we arrive in calontir at vatavia's valor
tourney, where i find out that they have not only made me a tunic, but have
paid my site fee, and feast fee, and brought extra food and drink for me . i
helped set up camp , then they said go have fun, which i actually did, and
by the end of the event i was hooked . who would have thought that some 29
years later i would be in my 8th year as an officer of the barony of
northkeep , have had 2 different membership numbers , and a grant level
award ???

Be Safe , Be Happy, Have Fun .
Arthur
