greetings
how much money do they need to raise per year to stay open ?
have they looked at membership rate increases ? I know every nonprofit I'm
part of has had to raise membership rates including the sca.
also , have they thought of changing their image ?( they are more than the
old people selling paper poppies on veterans day , but how many people know
that ? ) &
( most of the new vets from overseas are much younger than their normal
membership base )
( thanks to the government, there is no longer a shortage of veterans who
have served over seas during a time of war )
with all the new veterans who now qualify , by having served in war time, in
a different country, have they thought about recruiting new members from
that group ?
have they thought of perhaps doing a historical display , maybe once or
twice a year , with pic's and other memorabilia from their time in war zones
? kind of an evolving time capsule of the people who lived through what
others only read about in the papers, or history books ? they could charge
admission, as well as run the snack bar for profit, advertise for free on the
internet, on the TV and radio " public announcements " same in the paper.
get the public involved, advertise to the history buffs, the war gamers,
even vets that served in the years of no f.w.
if they don't have enough active members to work the display / show/ what
ever , have they thought of offering free entry to the members of another
group that uses the building if they spend " x " amount of time working the
display / show ? or maybe discounted tickets for that groups other members
who aren't / cant work the display / show, but would like to see it ?
and do they have something like a " perpetual membership ?
if they don't they may wish to look into it, members pay like 15 years worth
of membership dues at one time, the person never has to pay dues again for
as long as he / she lives, the money goes into an interest bearing account
( or investments depending on how they want to do it ) and the money from
all of these earns interest / value , from then on, the deposits can never
be withdrawn, only the interest / capital gains . so the group makes money
even after the person dies ( as long as the ones using the market don't
guess wrong and lose money )
anyway , just a few questions and suggestions off the top of my head .
Be Safe , Be Happy, Have Fun .

Subject: [Northkeep] VFW hall help
They are in need of our help. It seems that they are in a low cash flow
situation and closing the hall is becoming a real but bad option for them.
They use to have Bingo bringing in some money to pay the bills but it is not
what it use to be and now they are having trouble with the operator of it.
They have probably enough money to keep the hall open for about 20 months
and then they will have to shut it down completely. They did not come to me
about money and do not necessarily want donations from our members, although
they do take them. What they want is ideas. Their members are brainstorming
on ideas on how to make money for the hall. They have asked us since we use
the hall for our practice if our members might have any ideas. Besides the
obvious ones like holding shows or concerts there they would like others.
The other problem they have is execution of these endeavors. For they have
had shows in the past but have lost money on
them because of lack of expertise on these things and volunteers to help
with them. Hate to say this they are a dying breed. They have had a big drop
in membership over the years. So I am throwing this out there not just for
us but a whole group of veterans who need our help. If you have thoughts on
how to raise sustainable funds or the expertise to help with getting these
kinda things off the ground please let me know. Its not about us loosing a
site to practice at because we can go anywhere. Its about history of that
building. Its about giving back to those who have given so much for all of
us. They will be having a brainstorming meeting on Feb. 4 at the hall
starting at 10:00am and we have been invited. But you can always send your
thoughts and ideas to me to pass along as well. They know we have many
members that might have some great ideas and would like to tape into that
knowlege. Thanks for your time.
