[Northkeep] 1. Maxim magazine covers the SCA (Robert Bates)

I would have to read the article to know whether or not to be offended.

While I say that the SCA is not to be trifled with (because we are well armed and tend to believe in things like Jure du Combat), It is probably not worth getting upset about.
From the impressions I have gathered, Maxim has a rather disingenuous way of saying "It's okay to be a geek...But we are totally not geeks, really!" 
For instance, I saw an article which was about playing DnD with porn-stars. (Peanut butter and chocolate, right?) 
They also seem to be trying to make words like "dork" less offensive by using it very widely and stretching the definition.

Really, mundies will be mundies. And there will always be people who say "Oh, so you LARP?" or (my favorite) "How is, uh, jousting?"
But those who seek shall find, and those are the people we care about.

If anyone has a chance to pick up the May 2013 issue of Maxim there is an artical on the SCA. Although I'm glad for the coverage I can't help but feel like its one big back handed compliment. The artical is titled Game of Dorks. A small part of me wants to feel really bitter at how some of the stuff was handled. But I would love others input.

So, just a reminder that populace is tomorrow night.  If you have things
for the raffle at Castellan please feel free to bring them with you.  I
would be more than happy to take possession of them and get them out of
your hair.

raffle.  Really, just about anything.  Feast gear you no longer need, a
length of fabric you don't think you'll use, garb you've outgrown (or
shrunk out of.....).  Books, candlesticks, videos, figurines, jewelry;
we've had all sorts of things over the years.
