Lyle,

Hail and well met!

I have also seen many pavilions with side poles in the SCA, and don't have
documentation for it. The closest I get is at
http://www.teleport.com/~tguptill/awning.htm, which shows an unusual protruding
doorway, and has obvious poles holding up the exterior doorway. I would be
interested in seeing any documentation others may have for side poles.

Stephen, did you find any evidence of this while compiling your tent database?
(For those of you unfamiliar with this, Stephen has an amazing online reference
for tents, at
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Atrium/3696/Tents/intro.html).
