Hi Wendy, just a thought you may want to make a strong patch where you will be setting your grommets. You can make one, just by sewing about four layers of canvas together.
Making sure you sew them over and over until you have a stiff as a board patch. Then sew this down to your tent roof edge. Again sewing it over and over to your tent until
you have a stiff and thick spot to set your grommets. Make sure you do not make a large hole when setting it. However, one just large enough to push the grommet tightly
through. Then set it. See if this works. First make sure you have really patched to bad spots so they don't tear. Also you can use a thick piece of leather. Marguerite
