That would be an improvement on the chili, but people would learn 
more about period food if you started a tradition of doing some 
period equivalent of the chili feed--i.e. something from a period 
recipe that is reasonably inexpensive and easy to do in bulk. 
Andalusian lentils is one example. Pottage of meat is a bit more 
work, but yummy. Ditto rishta. For other ideas, you might want to 
look through the webbed version of the recipes section of the latest 
Miscellany, at:
