that was a classic demo that we (camp staff) gave to debunk
snake-myth .. put out rope, add rattler to center, watch it make a
bee-line away from humans over rope ...
i only time i ever interact with a snake when in snake country, is
when i invade their turf or hunt them for food (have a lomg-standing
fondness for grilled rattler .. it does not taste like chicken, it
tastes like rattler.. ). easy to find food source on desert
walkabouts.

is that that the aussie crocodile geek ???
a point to remember, *we* (human / evolved-primates) are
top-of-the-food-chain ... ergo, unless we are really foolish, all
other species will usually give way )if we gove them a chance)- lest
we kill and in some cases devour them. and snakes *hate* humans and
unless cornered will usually give way.
most of the sites that scadia uses are established sites that have
regular and frequent human occupation, ergo minimal snake problems ..
a new site, or a rough one being developed i would pay more attention
to whats on the ground, but would'nt sweat it.
'wolf
.. and as backup always has a venom extractor kit in my field med kit
(raised as a rural boyo) ... for me and my animals
