miLord Gunthar,
if you subscribe to the Medieval Encampments List, and then go to the Album on the 2nd page of the Med. Enc. Photo Files , - you'll find my newly-posted Album - "Messire Baker's Camp & work" - where I show one type of raised firehearth which I copied from one of the replica Viking Houses at Jorvik - the reconstructed Viking settlement at York, England - which the Romans named "Eboracum".
You will also see therein a few pictures of my own personal quarters and Feast Tent - all made, found, &c - since September, 2002.
My House is greatly indebted for inspiration from House Greydragon, - and you could, - to some profit, belike - look at the subfiles about camping and camp furniture & equipment to be found at < www.greydragon.org > For pictures of their stunning personal quarters and Feast Tent - don't miss the 2 files under "Events" - labelled "Double Wars".
IF my House can be of any further assistance in piointing you to information concerning any matter of "making a period encampment" - then do not hesitate to e-mail this humble veteran Soldier - who hath already done much research on this matter since May, 2003.

  Yours in service,
   Matthew Baker
  dwelling in "old" Jersey,
on the Outer Marches of Insulæ Draconis.

Thanks, I was wondering about that. I know of several lists that
just never get mail and I didn't want to be stepping on any toes
if this was an active list and I started a list basically talking about the
same thing.

Btw, I finally got the link to the woodcut:

http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/food-art/field_kitchen.gif
It's one of the ones out of Scappi
Il Cuoco Segreto Di Papa Pio V (The Private Chef of Pope Pius V), by
Bartolomeo Scappi, Venice, 1570.
It's at */The Medieval/Ren Food Clip-Art Collection/

I'll go and check the other list. Thanks for the advice.
