[Ravensfort] A Homemade Solar Water Heater

Still wished I'd of been able to have brought some of my grandfather's goats (boer) to stay at my house... the foreman at their ranch used their 'pellets' for plant fertilizer & man, did it work!!!  Are goats better escape artist than llama's?  Those goats were not picky at what they ate either, you just had to not let them run you over for the corn or alfalfa at feeding time.

One of the original attractions to the SCA for me was by doing research, one was able to learn to be 'self-suffiencient' in the modern day (organic crops, cleaner water/elec/air by using historical pieces your ancestors would of used, etc).  Though not "period", I recommend watching Discoveries "Planet Green" channel!  Long time overdue!

One of the 'Renovation Nation' (Steve from This Old House) shows covered using solar water heater tubing on the roof that was tied into the pump of the swimming pool - heated pool water when wanted at no more than cost of using the swimming pool pump...

That is on my list after solar panels on the roof.  Don't think local subdivision deed will let me put up a wind power system... hmmmm, but then again...

I've been an organic gardener for several years.  I have a neighbor with llamas, which by the way go in the same place so it is easy to load it up and put it in the garden.  Added points:  it's free... it doesn't smell... comes in little pellets

Researching and growing period vegetables and herbs is a good introduction for SCA folks to the organic and new victory garden movements.  There are a lot of historical ways of preparing food from making cheese, pickling to home brewing that make for useful projects.
