Durst, field director of the project, will deliver a presentation highlighting archeological discoveries at Ft. St. Louis. Established in 1685, the French fort represents the first European attempt at establishing a settlement in the area we know today as Texas. The Spanish later built Presidio La Bahia over the site. During a period of two and a half years the THC conducted field research on the site recovering thousands of French and Spanish artifacts including eight iron cannons and the remains of French colonists.
