[Ravensfort] Meetings and .. stuff

Even though I graduated from college several years ago, I still remember my time on campus (no, I did not graduate from SHSU).  Students generally do not just walk into meetings being held in the student centers, unless they have been invited.  Most students just take a quick glance at the door and keep walking.  The few students that do "just" walk in, are usually looking for a specific room and get turned around.
 
The fire station has been the best place for our populace meetings, and I think we should continue to use their meeting facilities until there is a time when they are unavailable.
 
And finally last but not least, to answer the question about the meeting rooms being built on the west side of Huntsville.  The contractor that was hired to build the new fire station did substandard work, which in turn caused the building to not pass inspection.  So it was never finished and had to be torn down.  If I remember correctly they were using dimensional lumber to construct the whole complex and by state and federal codes for fire stations, it is not allowed.  I believe they finally found a new contractor who built a smaller station with the available funds left from the original contract.

just my 2 cents.. I would think if you/we want to find new folks, then we would  find a place new folks are at. Now, if was me, I would have that populace at the student center, or.. golden cor.. or.. anywhere new folks  might be found  at. To me thats a no brainer.. Now there are those will will disagree... and we can .. disagree..  my thoughts.  populace should be the calling card of who we are, put it on campus.. Populace is not really for just us, its also a .. hey who the hell are they.. lets cheak them out... we walk up in costume.. we get new folks..  matter of fact, unless its a privite practice, or a private .. say officer meeting then.. we need be right there out in the open. We have to have folks see us. If we do not get new membership then we do one of 2 things.. we self perpetuate and do not grow..  and.. then die. We must have new members.  all fighter practice (light and heavy) need to be in a place that mass traffic can see and talk to.  Demos? do we have any "ins"" with the gaming/comic book community? thats how we used to get a lot of great members  we need to get back to the on campus populace.. the ol **the walking the hall** for membership. Thre are 2 comic shops here, I am going to start talking to them.  Did  miss anything? I want new or old chiv fighters get out..  so.. we need new members.. how do we get them, we need lots and lots of fighters.. how do we get them.. and we need to be visable, creative, open, and .. most of all freindly.  If you agree ar disagree thats great.. speak up.  I want to see more fighters..  Baron Brian, thanks for all your help in that area.   Michael

I liked moving it to the 8th also.  This gave people time to recover from New Years festivities.As for location..I actually thought moving it towards the Conroe area would be nice this month since our "impromtu" business meeting was held in Huntsville last month.  There was at least one member that voiced negatively about the Business meeting being held in Huntsville.  Ironically, that person is now wanting the Populace meeting to be held in Huntsville when it would be closer if it were moved to the Willis/Conroe area.If we hold it at the "Shop"..we can still do food.  It's called "potluck".  There is also a working kitchen to prepare the food and set up a buffet line.The last time we held meetings in Huntsville..it was done at the Golden Calf.  Food sucked and we had small turnout.Since this is the New Year and the vocalized concern for a good "turn-out"..I vote to hold it at the shop.  I believe this would be our strongest turn-out..and if I am wrong I'll give a quarter for those that need it.YIS,Marie
