Agreed, but being arrested and charged does not mean a person has done
the crime with which they are charged.

Lizzie Borden was charged with the crime and acquitted by a jury for
lack of evidence.  She was not released on a technicality.  The evidence
was inconclusive, and there is every likelyhood that another party did
commit the crimes (there being the sister, the Irish maid and the
ubiquiteous transient stranger to choose from, sorry, no butler).  The
view that she was guilty of the Fall River Ax Murders comes more from
her villification in the popular press than from the evidence.

The murders are still unsolved.
