 Any suggestions re: the types of dishes

Roasted meats of all kinds - pork with boar's tail sauce,
lamb, beef, chicken
Tarts - fruit, cheese with vegetables
Fresh bread
Simple vegetables

Things to consider avoiding -- using the medieval names for
the dishes in the hearing of the very modern guests.
Most mixes of meat with fruit

If you serve them periodlike food in a modern way (modern
table settings, e.g.), they may never notice they're
being educated :)
