As far as I know, pickled herring is not cooked into something else, because
it is fairly fragile.  It is usually eaten cold with other things.  I have
had it on Rye Krisp, and in various forms from a Swedish smorgasbord.  Really
good stuff, and I like the sour cream and dill version.  (sigh)
