I would have said "Definition of SCA period." The SCA period includes both
the Middle Ages and the Renaissance (and, in some sense, everything
earlier). Creating a special definition of "medieval" as meaning "in SCA
period" leads to confusion, since the end of our period is after the end of
the Middle Ages.
