I don't believe I implied anyone couldn't 'handle' a competition (at
least I hope I didn't come off that way- abject apologies if I did),
only that I was really hoping for a comradley sort of 'potluck', where
everyone, at all levels of expertise helps. I (with my lack of
expertise) would love to be able to ask one of the experts for help,
recipes, advice, suggestions,etc... and wouldn't feel that this would be
'ok', if it were competitive, no matter how friendly and enlightened,
because using another person's knowledge would not be honorable, then.
However, I WOULD feel comfortable asking someone to help me 'perfect' a
dish, if it were one more dish that he/she would be partaking of in
mutual communion. ('mutual communion'... don't you love the 'religious
experience of food' overtone in that phrase?). Also, I would probably
have trouble 'handling' the cost of a dish for a competition-sized
crowd- would much rather pay for food for those who are, in turn,
feeding me.
Anyhow, I think a competition might be nice, as well as a potluck, and
as well as Ras's Feast-to-die-for, but, I guess I'm hoping they are
separate ideas. 1) An incredible, collaborative,
high-priced-but-worth-it kind of ticket feast, organized by Ras, I
believe; 2)a pre-planned, bring-a-dish-as-your-fee, many levels of
competence, just-for-us potluck, to which there might be invited a few
priviledged guests, hosted by the gracious person who had the idea, at
Pennsic and/or Gulf Wars; and 3)an awsome competition, where you
heavy-hitters can strut your stuff, and decide who, or where is best,
presided over by the creative gentle who came up with that thought. Just
my opinion.
Thanks for listening- if anyone is going to be in charge of making 1) or
2) happen, I'd love to be a part- please E-mail me!
