  OK, so I'll only post things from people who have explicitly given 
  permission.  If I know it's illegal, then it would be unethical to do 
  so -- I'm really not concerned about being sued (this isn't a 
  profit-making venture).

Don't confuse legal with ethical.

Contrariwise, if people sent Alys pictures, and she wants to put them to
good and educational use, I find that use to be marvelously ethical:
especially so if the authors of the pictures are given intellectual credit.

I dare say it's a good idea, ethical as can be.  Not necessarily perfectly
legal, but leaving other parties no real recourse, so long as no real
monetary damage is done.
