<snip>
OOTC (semi-serious):
Much has been made infamous in prudish company over the
last two hundred years (at least!) about the licentious
behaviours of the ancients when it came to using the
human body as one of the serving platters, or in gratuitous
display as an accompaniment to the delectables being served.
(The cliche of a slave peeling grapes, or a tableux of
living [or sculpture] nudes decorating the table, are
two commonly-invoked images.)
So, any observations on related practices in post-Roman
feast presentation?
Sources for descriptions, pro or con?
Current Middle Age anecdotes of a feast salvaged -- or spoilt! --
by the human-display component of presentation?
<snip>

Anybody seen the feast scene in the movie "The Advocate"? This is a very good
movie for those who haven't. It is otherwise very well documented- I am
wondering if they documented the nudes as serving trays also?
