Stefan,

Sassafras root is usually used to make anything with sassafras flavoring,
although bark will work well, if being messier and needed in greater
quantities. Why don't you start with sassafras tea, wherein you boil the root
for a while? At the third boiling, it's at its best. Now, as to to boiling
water- does anyone have a period recipe for Stefan for boiling water?
