I was thinking this same thing when I read the first post regarding
spuds. While I am very fond of hash (corned beef, two eggs lightly
poached, mmmmm...) re-hashing didn't sound like fun. Before I joined the
Cook's List, I asked a series of questions on the Tavern Yard to get info
(and a decent conversation going) on how people felt about Feasts,
"Period Food", entertainment at feasts, different serving styles, etc.
It went on for a while, and then it got totaly bogged down in what we
will call the Great Root Vegetable Debate. We covered turnips, beets,
turnips, parsnips, carrots, turnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, etc.
etc. etc. ad infinitum, ad nauseum, turnips. I did save all of it
(archived now from my old hard drive) and have re-read parts of it. I
haven't even read Stephans file on it, I have my own that may rival his!
Potatoes are one of those buttons (my number one germanic type comfort
food, probably number one comfort food over all) that people just can't
leave alone. I don't even want to talk about turnips. :P
However, maybe the original series of questions might be interesting on
this list. I'll have to dig them out.
