SC - Cookie cutter cookie dough....

Hi Folks -

The one really cool thing I got for christmas was a nice, large, copper
fleur-dis-lie (sp?) cookie cutter.

The reason I mention this is that an acquaintance is getting a Laurel
this weekend and LOVES Purple and Fleur-dis-lie's - this lead someone to
suggest that I make sugar cookies with purple frosting on them for the
vigil.

That was when the little authenticity checker that you folks have
instilled in me poked it's head up and said "I wonder if shortbread
dough could be rolled and cut with a cookie cutter? I wonder if there
is something else like that that could? Were there anything like modern
sugar cookies? I wonder if anyone has documented or found reference to
anything, particularly cookies and such, frosted or iced? What about
colored icing?" (it's a noisy little critter....)

Anyway, has anyone? I mean, I'll make the sugar cookies with royal
icing as a last resort, just for the shape and the color, but if there
is a more period/perioid option, I'd love to take it!

Ruadh
