Hi Stefan:
        You asked:
Another question just occured to me. Has anyone ever charted the fast
days when almond milk was used instead of animal milk? What happens
if you stop milking your livestock during these times? Does the milk
dry up? Or were these times when the milk wasn't generally available
anyway? Or would they have continued milking the animals and just
thrown out the milk (which I doubt) or make products that would
keep such as cheese?

Many of the fast days would have fallen in the winter months. Before the
advent of mechanized farm equipment, it was much more difficult to put
enough fodder away to feed many milk cows. The productiion of milk would
have fallen off drastically in the lean winter months. In addition, I would
guess that even for the fast days that occurred in the warmer months, it
would not have been as big a deal to skip a day of milking. Milk is
produced to nournish a mammal's offspring......there would have been calves
around to consume the milk that might have otherwise gone towards making
cream or butter or cheese or whatever. i'm sure that there are plenty of
folks on this list who have lots more experience with all of this than i do.
        Hope that this helps, Antoine
