I do not hunt and so have no first hand knowledge of this but I grew up in a rural area where hunting was important.  According to many of my friends that do hunt, deer and rabbits are considered by some people to be not worth hunting during the summer because they have a lot of parasitic worms in their meat during the summer which makes their meat unappealing.
