SC - Hall and Kitchen Stewards.

There was a position of hall steward in period, and he did just that:
took care of things in the hall and acted as liason for the (kitchen
person) and the others. Not many places have them, but OhBoy!!! is it
wonderful for the Kitchen Steward when there is one.

'Cook' doesn't say it all--I can be a cook in your kitchen, many people
can be cooks in my kitchen--when I'm in charge, I'll prefer 'Kitchen
Steward'. 'Cuisinier' is OK if I'm doing a French feast, but I'd feel
silly doing German or Italian and calling myself a cuisinier. 'Chef' has
been Americanized enough so that it wouldn't be too bad, but our native
language is English--for the majority of the SCA, but certainly not
all--so I'll use the English terminology. Having used feast-o-crat for
15 years, I just accepted it as an SCA 'thang'.
Regards,

Allison
