Lillian / Nicolette, I have a recipe for gingerbread which includes
breadcrumbs, honey, pepper, cloves, saffron, saffron and saffron. (But no
ginger)
Heat honey, mix in the stuff, cool to set, serve. This is good stuff. 
Gilded with proper gold foil, and whole cloves poked in, it is good stuff 
that looks really flash (Otherwise it comes outa pretty nice colour)
