SC - Introduction

Greetings!

As the subscription confirmation suggested, I am posting my introduction.

My name is Avelina Keyes and I hail from the Barony of the Bridge in the East Kingdom. My interests in the SCA are archery, cooking, heraldry, calligraphy and illumination (do men count as an interest? ;-) I have a weird sense of humor also.

Currently I serve as both Baronial Archery Champion and Baronial Pursuivant, although I believe that the Championship will be coming to an end sometime this summer.

I have helped cook at a couple of East Kingdom Coronations and was head cook for one of Our Queen's Birthday Feast. I have also helped cook at local events and for my households.

My main interests in SCA style cooking is to make period foods that are palatable to modern eaters. I pick recipes that have *stuff* in them that just about everybody would eat (no brains or lungs here!). I try to use period ingredients unless they are extinct, and then I try to use to closest equivalent that is available today. In the few recipes I have made directly from period sources, I have changed only one thing. (there was a sausage recipe that was 10% salt by weight. I reduced the amount of salt in that recipe significantly).

My next cooking project is either going to be playing with the liver based sausages or the herb stuffed veal rolls from Platina.

I guess this is about enough noise out of me for now.

Yours,
Avelina Keyes
