Very interesting! Do you have any more on the medicinal qualities of butter
M'lord? My great uncle suffered a bad burn once and the burn was coated in
butter. I'm wondering if there was more to that than met the eye then!

Actually, at one time, butter was considered a sovereign remedy for burns,
but it is now considered about the worst thing you can do for a burn since
it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. One of the greatest risks for any
burn is infection, which is why it is now suggested that you NOT pop
blisters, so that your skin can protect the area from infection. When a
doctor chooses to debride a burn nowadays, the usual salve includes
antibiotics and vitamin E, and is kept closely covered. Perhaps the butter
contained larger quantities of vitamin E, a fat soluble vitamin, long known
for its beneficial effects on the skin?
