Just a quickie, parce-que je parle un peu de francais:

Crème fraiche - accent grave (upper left to lower right) on the first
	"e" in "crème"; accent circonflex (looks like an A-frame tent) over
	the "i" in "fraiche."

In French, the only consonant to get any sort of accent is the letter "C"
which has a funny one under it that looks like the bottom of the number "5"
called a "cedille" if it is going to be pronounced like an "S".  Example: In
"Parce-que," the "c" would have a cedille and it is pronounced "pars-kuh"
(approximately).

Petit pois - not "poi," which is a starchy Hawai'ian staple food.  "Pois" is
the word for "pea"; these are a special, young, small and very sweet pea.
Mostly you will find green peas.

(We had a section in tenth-grade french on cooking.  I showed off with a
cognac-chocolate cake that almost got me into trouble.)

Haricot beans are long green beans; you often see them "french style," being
sliced longways into thin bits.

As for men cooking, my dad is renowned for his chili.  It was never fully
cooked when we had the first bowlful, we could not wait.  My brother is the
master chef of the family, and his wife is a devoted dishwasher in their
home.  (She cooks too, but why bother?)  My mother raised us both to know
how to do all basic household chores; the heights to which we took them was
solely up to us.
