Part of the reason De Bello Gallico is not frequently translated is that
every Latin student is made to suffer Caesar about their second year of
Latin, since it's written in a simple Classical style. If Caesar wrote of
elk being raised like fruit trees and plucked from them like fruit or
whatever, trust me, it was a story he'd heard- the man has no sense of
humor. I still shudder when I think of all the hours I spent watching Caesar
run those 3456876 footsoldiers up and down the hills, in and out of various
campi, waving gladii and heaving pili.....

Omnia Gallia in tres partes divisa est, and he should have left it that way.
