IMO- in "periodness" instant oatmeal beats cold cereal or granola bars.
The end result is "period" though the route to get it is not.
Of course, costwise, you'll save a bundle by fixing a pot of porridge
for the camp instead of providing that many envelopes of instant
oatmeal. As for things kids can fix themselves, piles of fresh fruit
and breads take no preperation. They may not eat this at home, but may
be convinced that "in camp" things are different. kids 8 or 9 years old
and above should be able to cook (or at least assist) as well as many of
the adults.
