My sheckels here, to me a stew is a portion of meat, proportionally more
vegetation and flavorings cooked in a relatively large amount of liquid, but not
thin enough to be soup. Generally cooked on top of a heating source. I would rank
cassoulet d'isignie as a casserole or braised dish. This sort ofgoes along with
the idea that a stew would have been a\made in the corner of the hearth and a
casserole taken to the town bakery and popped in to use up the residual heat.
