It would be easy for my kids to explain why their mother (who was 10) is a
relic - 1967 was BT (Before Television) in the part of the country where I
grew up - in 1967 I had never even seen a television screen.

I had, but probably didn't care, I was only 1 at the time. It was
probably big, ugly, and black and white

My aunt had the first television in Columbus, Georgia. She picked up
transmissions from Atlanta when the weather was right. The console was
HUGE!!! About 8ft x 3ft. The screen was round, and about 8 inches in
diameter!!!!! The whole family would gather at her house and pray for good
weather on Sunday Nights so we could watch the USSteel Playhouse.
When I was a teenager, I remember what a big deal it was when Dick Clark had
Bandstand on live one time and we were able to pick it up in Georgia.
I was born in '48. The first President I remember is Ike, and I remember the
polio epidemic of the early fifties. I always felt guilty about Korea,
because my Dad's Guard unit was mobilized, and my Mom was unhappy, so it had
to be my fault. ( I know, I'm weird.)
I remember the Eberly Brothers, Duane Eddy, and "Love Me Tender." And I
remember the Day the Music Died.
My siblings tell people that they won't play Trivial Pursuit with me because
I have an unfair advantage, having lived through all the history.
I remember when all housewives made their own biscuits and bread, and I
remember Church homecomings and Family reunions, and I remember our church
having a "going away" wake for the young men going off to Viet Nam, and how
many of them either didn't come back, or didn't come back whole.
I remember when Bill Cosby's comedy albums were VERY risque, and no one ever
mentioned Lenny Bruce. And I remember George Carlin and the "Seven things
you can't say on Television."
