Well, actually, I've got an even eviller plan I just bounced off the
Trimarian list. This is a project I've been wanting to do for years - the
"Totally Trimarian Feast". A feast consisting of nothing but native
foodstuffs, all foraged. Florida is a veritable cornucopia of seafood,
exotic fruits, meats, you name it! And if you catch it / kill it / pick it,
it's free!
Consider; one course I'd love to do would be a Paella. Normally, that
would be prohibitively expensive to prepare for a large number of people. So
we have the Great Trimarian Fish Foraging Expedition! Do an event down in
the Keys during bug season, and we forage for the bounty of the sea.
Lobster, fish, shrimp, crabs, oysters, mussels, square groupers, whatever
falls our way. Those who want to fish, fish, those who want to dive, dive,
those who don't want to get more than knee deep can gather shellfish and the
like. We prep and eat some of it there (BEACH PARTY!!), and some gets
cleaned and frozen. I have a LARGE freezer, so storage isn't a problem. We
could get 3 or 4 courses out of that trip alone.
I'd love to do roast wild pig, and perhaps a couple of small deer. We
wait for hunting season, and we do the Hunting party! All those macho guys
who said they'd love to go Boar hunting with a spear? Or go after deer with
a bow & arrow? Here's your big chance! Personally, I'm going to be standing
off to one side with a .308 when the hogs come at ya . . . And another one
during duck season to lay in the fowl. And maybe a snipe hunt, yeah, add
snipe to the menu.
Those who don't want to hunt big (well, what passes for big around here)
game can forage for native vegetation, or for meats that don't bite back.
For something like this, I'm sure we could get a state agricultural expert
or someone from the university to make sure we didn't poison ourselves.
Seriously, this would be a project that would probably go on for at
least 6 months, and result in the single most memorable feast in the history
of the Kingdom. Not to mention several really fun events / parties that are
a bit out of the ordinary. These would be centered around whatever foods are
in season, and would be in many different areas of the Kingdom. There would
be something for everybody to do, we'd all learn a very great deal, and I
think we'd all have a marvelous time doing it together.

    Sieggy
