I have moved my Cooks' List correspondence to Outlook Express - I haven't
got used to its idocyncracities yet.  I have removed the quotation marks
(and I give you full credit for seeing the obvious interpretation of them!
I have seen so many signs in windows which read, for example 'Tomatoes on
"special" today "only"!'  I never quite know how to read that!).

I am not even sure that the Americans have anything like golden syrup - but
I could be wrong about that.  Unfortunately, there is no real substitute in
Anzacs - both honey and treacle leap to mind, but they would still not be
Anzac biscuits!
