    Gather, and surmise, my friend...This list will serve you well.  Yes, 
there is an elitist attitude here, but once you realize that you will find 
that anywhere, it's fairly simple to ignore.  My way of dealing with it is to 
challenge the elitists. Force them to rationalize their attitude, and offer 
up their opinions.  I learn alot while doing this, as well.  To assume that 
there is only one way to prepare period food is elitist, that's true.  And 
there are those who will fight you tooth and nail rather than admit any 
possibility that there may be another way.  But there are others who will 
offer up as much help as you need.  You just have to know how to seperate the 
wheat from the chaff, as it were.
