To clarify after reading further into this thread.  In Britain, there are 
times when if one asks for a soda one will get no ice, and it will be served 
room temperature, but I have also had soda served with ice, both in 
restaurants and in homes of friends.  In general though, having ice in your 
soda is more automatically done in the US than in the UK. :-)
