schnitz = apples (often dried apples)
gnepp = ham

It's a generic Pennsylvania Dutch term for any dish of ham and apples,
but often refers specifically to soupy dish of ham and apple chunks. I
vaguely recall my grandmother serving it over noodles, and I've seen
recipes for it served in a crust.
