Probably the various varieties of Cucumis melo; Persian, casaba, honeydew,
muskmelon, cantaloupe.  They are of Asiatic origin, but have been grown
around the Mediterranean for a long time.

Watermelons are Citrullis vulgaris and are of African origin.
