I agree. However, the token can easily be transformed from an eyesore
or something forgettable to something that folks will be happy to take
home as a reminder of the event. Check this file in the
SCA-EVENT-PLANNING 
section of my files:
tokens-msg        (27K)  3/31/97    Ideas for feast and site tokens.

This idea of making nice, useful site tokens was why I took up pewter
casting using soapstone molds. For a bunch of info on how to do this
look at this file in the CRAFTS section:
casting-msg      (109K)  2/17/00    Casting pewter and other metals.

I haven't tried casting spoons, but that may be a project in the future.
