But they don't need protein! Carbohydrates (long *and* slow, not just
sugars)  and fat, depending on how long it is supposed to last. Unless
you have been living on a rather odd diet for quite some time you won't
get much (any?) energy from the protein. Check what they eat during long
distance running competitions, not "ideal muscle building diets", to
find out what would be good. 

Waiting with glee for someone not to realize that the period
alterantives are pretty ok, as is the bread, cheese and fruit
"standard".
