Is there any reason to believe these were considered appropriate
breakfast foods, other than that they are considered so now? Of course,
period descriptions of various fast breaks often include things like
cold roasts or fish in season, boiled bacon, and ale, so a suspicion
these (payn perdu, waffles, etc.) might be seen as feast or supper foods
might not support any claim that they _weren't_ breakfast foods, either.
Just wondering how people are seeing this and what evidence we have.
