Here in America, the land of the greedy, we celebrate no such day as a
whole. Unfortunately. There are soup kitchens that put on a big splash
with lots and lots of volunteers who want to clear their public concience so
they donate a day serving the less fortunate or dropping canned goods in
collection boxes that are placed out only a few times a year. It is sad.
Our collective heritage cultures have been, for the most part, left in the
dust. Forgotten.

This is not true of all people in America. I know several Jewish Temples
that have food collection boxes all year round. There are other places that
do this also, independantly, for the most part. The health rules for
donations of cooked food leftovers for shelters and soup kitchens vary and
are usually not accepted.

As for me, I try to get folks to clean out their closets and pantries, go
through their blanket boxes and sock drawer. Then I carry it down to
shelters and pass some out on the street. I have about 8 street folk that I
regularly take to, most are Vietnam Vets, two are women. I lost one last
year. Froze to death. Sad.

Nuff said. Keep to your good cultures and holidays. Look out for your
neighbors. Remember the children.

peace
